I know it's a pain to peel my apples

If you don't have this disorder you will never understand a lot of things about how it affects my life. Let me try to explain one of those things just really quickly and what you can do to help.
I love apples. When they are peeled that is. So let me tell tell you a story.

A few weeks ago one of my cousins got married. For the reception, my mom made Waldorf salad. Waldorf salad is one of my top favorite things. It was apples and grapes and celery and cheese and nuts and marshmallows. Ok? it's great. So after the wedding is over, there is still all this Waldorf salad. So naturally my mom gave me a big container of it. And so it sat in my refrigerator until it got too old and my husband threw it out.

Now you're probably thinking, "Wait, I thought you said it was your favorite thing. Why didn't you eat it?"

For one simple reason.
The apples still had the skin on them.
My mom had been in a hurry with so much to do for the wedding. She got in a hurry and didn't peel the apples before chopping them up. To a normal person this is probably nothing, but to me this is everything. That is a matter of my being able to eat my favorite thing or not. Even though the apples were cut into small chunks, I still can't eat the peel. I chew and chew to no avail. And then it is rough going down. I'm not going to put myself though that.

So, I know it's a pain to peel my apples. And it's a pain for me to eat them with the skin.
I know it is much more convenient to not peel them. And it is much more convenient for me to not choke on them.
I know sometimes you get in a hurry. I, however, do not have that luxury.

Peeling apples is a small way you can make a big difference to someone with swallowing difficulties. And please do it without fussing about it. We know it's a pain. We don't need you to make us feel worse about it. Would you rather us choke? or not eat?? because those are the other options. Yeah, I didn't think so.
